It's been a year after I took the snap of these "maikos" (apprentice "geishas") during our Kyoto tour with exchange program students from the Philippines. I only had this time to publish the photos. How lucky I was, I had a chance to see "real" ones I only saw in encyclopedia and TV and read from Arthur Golden's "Memoirs". I remember blurting "pig" audible Japanese phrase, trying the get the attention of the "maikos" and the "maiko" in yellow kimono smiled back at me. :-)

They are a common sight at Abella Street. There are now less than 10 of them plying along Abella. And their number continues to decrease. They are replaced by "padyak" (pedicab). I enjoyed boarding the caritela when I was a child. I'd even ask to be seated beside the "kutsero" and have a feel of grabbing, maneuvering, and giving direction to the "native" horse by the pulling the rope harnessed to it.

This picture was taken at the backstage of Xavier Hall while having the play AMDG (Life of the First Three Jesuit Companions). Fr. DJ, SJ brought this cross as props for one of the scenes (The First Vows). The crew left this by the backstage and suddenly the background got flooded with yellow light. Fortunately, I had my camera. I played the antagonist (Pedro Ortiz - Ignatius' enemy in the University of Paris) who eventually was transformed to become good. Primary roles were played by teachers and administrators - an all star cast! So what do you expect when students see their "tormentors" playing a role?

The title isn't a parody of the band, "Rolling Stones". I saw few stones piled in their banca as they were rowing past the Rosales Bridge while taking shots of floating water lilies. I wondered. Good, I was on mountain bike. I followed them by the boulevard by the bank of the river. I couldn't believe I could over take and wait for them by the next bridge. Roughly, the two bridges are 500 meters apart. Wow, this is the shot! The "bankero" was even wondering why I'm taking their picture. The amazement in his face is not clear anyway.

Sometimes, biking with a camera dangling from my neck brings me luck.

One morning, I happened to pass by Lt. Delfin Rosales Bridge

and caught this picturesque scene. I immediately stopped and dragged my bike

to the side and took this shot.

The dome in the background is the newest structure in the face of Naga City -

the Taoist Temple. Places of worship of various religions have started to sprout in the city.

There was no power for almost two weeks so I productively used boring hours by candlelight, painting portraits of Ignatius. I finished three! He'll (Ignatius) be glad at what I've done! He he...

This painting of St. Ignatius I copied from an "estampita" given to me by a Jesuit.

Eventually, I gave the painting to the Jesuits in the school. I took a picture before saying goodbye to my work.

Now, the portrait of the founder hangs in the Jesuits' bulletin board.

(He's my brother's pet. The python was named Bords because he was my brother's

lucky charm when he took the 2006 Customs Administration Licensure Exam.

Luckily, my brother placed 7th Place. My brother's in Manila right now.

So I had to take care of Bords. As a routine, Bords has to stay at least 30 minutes

under the morning sun snaking on our fence, watched over.

I was in hurry for my Mastertal class on weekends.

So I just left his glass cage out in the open.

I didn't notice I forgot to put him back or remind anyone at home to return the cage.

He was left baking under the sun all day. Must be heatstroke that caused his death.

Sorry - but I'm not a murderer.)

I love the play of light and shadow. This was at the Oriental Chapel

This is the Jesuit's Japanese Maria

in the grotto by their Residence (Shudo-in).

The Jesuits here run the Hiroshima Gakuin (High School).

I wondered why the Jesuits had a kimono-clad Maria.

I got this picture after I was sent there for more than two weeks

for an exchange program.

As you go towards Ateneo High School

in the slopes of Mt. Isarog,

the cross in the chapel's belfry will greet you first.

The chapel is dedicated to St. Francis Xavier, patron of the university.

I finished this painting few days after Typhoon Reming.

I had nothing to do. I couldn't tinker with Photoshop

so I decided to put out my materials for an old hobby.

This is one of a kind - perhaps, an unuasal portrayal of the

FUNDADOR of the Society of Jesus.

I got this snap of a boy taking a peek of the outside world

from the oratory of the Sapang Palay Area F Chapel. It took him quite

a longer time to put himself hanging in Chapel Rose Window.

I suppose this hole is intended for stained glass.
